I’m eating too much. I’m not working enough. I’m watching too much TV. I’m lazy when I should be productive. And on and on it goes… the rush of our mind’s chatter about how we do too much, too little, or not enough of anything these days.
During this weird time of being quarantined in our science fiction film, we are simply on a hiatus from the planet; a wish come true when we said, “I wish I could just stop the world for a minute and get off.”
And then it happened.
The world has stopped churning and we have all gotten off.
Just as the roads are empty, the meeting halls bare, the skies devoid of anything but birds, we too should adopt the silence, even for our minds, for ourselves.
The best thing to remember is to be kind to ourselves and to relinquish all judgment from within.
For today, instead of negative self-talk, we can just relax and give ourselves a break. We can live in the present moment while banning self-judgment. We can take this time to think, plan, or daydream. We can meditate with Deepak Chopra or take a class with Udemy. We can plant a garden or walk in the rain. We can leverage balance as needed to keep ourselves sane.
I’ve taken to capturing daily photos of the blooming flowers which will morph into Spring Flowers, the Virus Edition, a coffee table book,as proof that some life (besides the virus) did blossom on the planet during this time. That keeps me sane – to honor that nature has many sides.
Though this is a difficult and scary time, what I believe we’ll remember most, once it’s done, is how we relished the space, the time with our family, and the most-likely-needed interruption in our schedule. It’s a distraction that we will all eventually awaken from – the Silence of 2020.
